Greekgodx – the popular Twitch streamer – is 80% of the man he used to be. That’s because he lost 70 pounds over the course of a year. How did he do it? Streamer Dimitri ‘Greekgodx’ Antonatos lost all that weight eating a Keto diet
Greekgodx Weight Loss Journey
On April 27, Greekgodx showed off his year-long work results and thanked his fans for their support. He said: “I couldn’t have done it without you guys. Thank you to the guys that have been here through thick and thin – mostly thick but from the start. We are finally under 300 pounds, boys!”
He decided to lose weight when he stepped on the scale, and it read 369 pounds. His goal was to drop below 300 pounds. It took him a year to cut 20% of his body weight to see the scale read 299. And once he did, he shared his jubilation in a Tweet: “I am officially a part of the under 300 lb club, and it feels too god damn good baby.”
Greekgodx isn’t stopping at 299. His goal is to drop another 49 pounds to get to 250. And after losing more than 60 pounds, another 50 shouldn’t be too tricky, especially on the Keto diet. But, that’s not all he’s doing. The streamer is also working out on his treadmill and has filmed himself working out to songs like The Lion King’s Hakuna Matata.
He said about his next goal: “I’m not happy until I reach 250 pounds, because I’ve still got fat everywhere. I’m still 300 pounds, nonetheless. It’s not like I’m a skinny guy now.”
What’s the Keto Diet?
Keto is the short version of the word ketogenic, a diet that involves lowering your carb intake. Instead of eating sugars and carbs, you eat more protein and fat. Researchers have found that this low-carb diet helps people lose weight. It also allows everybody to get control of their diabetes and epilepsy
The ketogenic diet works with ratios of fat, protein, and carbohydrates – called macronutrients or macros. Dieters figure their percentages based on their current weight. Most macros are:
- 70-80% fat
- 10-20% protein
- 5-10% carbohydrates
If you eat a 2000-calorie diet, that works out to about 165 grams of pure fat, 40 grams of unrefined carbohydrates, and 75 grams of substantial protein.
To keep track, many people use mobile phone apps that calculate macros. You enter your current weight, your desired weight, and weekly weight-loss goals. The apps figure how much you should eat. Many already have foods and their macros installed, so you select the food and eat.
The challenge with a keto diet is minimizing sugar intake. People who are new to the diet are surprised to find out how much sugar they eat each day. Many processed foods contain large amounts of added sugar, which is a big no-no on the keto diet.
What Can You Eat?
The benefit of eating a keto diet is that you eat real, whole foods. The recommended foods include proteins like eggs, fish, and chicken. You can also eat dairy foods like cheese, real butter, and heavy cream. The challenge comes with the correct amount of carbs because you want to eat good ones from fruits, vegetables, seeds, and nuts.
What Can’t You Eat?
Many people turn to fast foods in our speedy world, which are usually processed and loaded with carbohydrates. On the keto diet, you stay away from starchy foods like bread, cereal, and pasta. You also avoid foods like corn, potatoes, and beans. These foods have too many carbohydrates according to the recommended macronutrient percentages.
Dieters should avoid sugary fruit juices and sodas. Sweets like cookies and cakes are not allowed either.
What Happens on the Diet?
This diet offers speedy short-term weight-loss. If you follow the diet and track your macros, you should lose weight. Many keto dieters find the first week or two challenging because their bodies have learned to crave sugar. Once that sugar craving subsides, the diet becomes easier to follow.
One of the first things dieters notice is that they seem less bloated. Carbohydrates have water (hydrate), so when people reduce their carb intake, bloating decreases. Often, dieters see the change in their appearance in the first month.
After a few weeks, dieters also notice that their cravings for food decreases. The high-fat diet leaves them satisfied. Keep in mind that the body quickly digests carbohydrates, so we get hungry so soon after eating them. The body digests proteins and fats more slowly.
Despite the slower digestion rate, people on the keto diet use more calories because their bodies are busy turning fat and protein into glucose. This promotes fat loss because insulin levels decrease on the keto diet.
Concerns Regarding the Keto Diet
Some people find the high-fat diet challenging to maintain. Dieters often find that the restricted carbohydrates make them feel foggy, tired, or irritable. It can be tough to avoid favorite foods like bread, sweet fruits, or comforting vegetables. Because of the concerns connected to the diet, you should talk to your healthcare provider before beginning it.
There are some potential side effects, too. Keto dieters are at risk of developing kidney stones, gout, and osteoporosis. They also can create nutrient deficiencies if they do not vary their diets. Dieters should not just focus on eating high-fat foods but on including foods with fiber, B-vitamins, and necessary minerals.
If you are interested in trying out Greekgodx’s keto diet, you might find it beneficial to join a support group. There are several on social media. Many keto dieters also find it helpful to work with a registered dietician, primarily since several food groups are eliminated in this diet.
The diet has helped many people lose weight, mostly if other weight-loss techniques didn’t work. It takes discipline to start and stay on a keto diet, but the results make it worthwhile. The diet also takes patience, as it took Greekgodx a year to lose 20% of his body weight.
Best wishes to you if you choose to embark on the same weight-loss journey.
