What is the Snake Diet?

The snake diet inventor is non-other than Cole Robinson. He goes on the state that you can lose rapid weight by fasting for long periods. Like snakes only eat once in a few months. Cole suggests that the fasting period should be between 24 – 48 hours without food, then having a 1 – 2-hour eating window. The snake diet consists of 3 phases, and we will go into more detail later in this article. We know that intermittent fasting is a good idea. Going 48 hours without food, in the long run, can be dangerous to your health.

Who Is Cole Robinson?

The founder of the snake diet and fasting coach. We couldn’t find any proof. That he has any experience or knowledge of nutrition. And qualifications in medicine or biology. Cole Robinson likes to use the approach where he will break you down before trying to build you up. In his videos, he starts off by Saying “Hi Fatty” and continues saying the F words a lot… This is not the right approach. Robinson also says that when your goal is reached. You can keep your desired weight by flowing in and out of the snake diet.

During the fasting period, the body loses a lot of electrolytes. These need to get replaced according to cole. You have to stay hydrated, and the following is described to help replace electrolytes. (3)

  • Water or H2O = 2 Liters
  • Potassium chloride = 1 teaspoon (No Salt)
  • Sodium chloride = half teaspoon (Himalayan Pink Salt)
  • Sodium Bicarbonate = 1 tsp (Baking Soda – Redmill Brand)
  • Magnesium Sulphate (Optional) = 1/2 tsp (Food Grade Epsom Salts)

The Phases of the Snake diet.

When you practice intermittent fasting. Or in the snake diet case “starvation,” your body goes into a state called ketosis. When your body starts burning your fat reserves instead of carbohydrates. For energy, there are safe ways to get into these states. And it’s proven to help with massive weight loss check out the keto diet here. (4) (5)

Phase 1

Like we mentioned before, phase one of the diet consists of 24 to 48 hours of fasting. This process is to get you into the ketosis phase where your body starts to burn fat. We would like to warn you although the ketosis state is a very good way to lose weight. Some people have reported symptoms that have coined the phrase “Keto Flu.” These symptoms, like a feeling of tiredness, let most people give up before they started. (6)

During the phase 1 process, you are only allowed to drink the Snake juice. That you prepared before these are to restore lost electrolytes in the body. (7)

It said that the goal here is the detoxification of the liver. You’re permitted to eat anything in the next 1 to 2 hours before fasting. Period of 72 hours, although it is not clear if there are any rules on what you can and cannot eat. For us, it looks like everything that you can get in your mouth, you may eat. (8)

Another thing we noted is that cole, Robinson. Does not state which toxins the body is expelling through the liver. We all know that the liver and kidneys get rid of toxins by sweating or urine.

Phase 2

Robinson states that in this phase, the fasting period. It should extend from 48 to 96 hours or until you cannot take the hunger. Cravings anymore, he says you will have to stay in this phase until the goal of your weight loss is reached. This sort of fasting is dangerous and can cause great health risks to your body. Robinson said people that are starting on the snake diet don’t need more than 3500 calories per week.

The USDA recommends between 11 000 and 26 000 calories per week. There is a name for people on this low-calorie diet, and it’s called severe calorie deprivation. Cole goes further, stating that the weekly calorie intake should be 8500 for women and 20 000 for men. He says that the total of calories should switch between 5 meals in 3 days.

Phase 3

This phase is the maintaining phase, and Cole mentions that fasting cycles of 24 to 48 hours are ideal. Where once should only eat 1 big meal. You can then measure the ketones in the body by way of urine samples. To make sure that you are in the keto phase, this will help burn more fat. (9)

This phase is quite difficult for a beginner. As Cole states, you have to try and avoid your hunger cues. There are hormones inside your body that trigger when they are in need of food called leptin—ghrelin, the hormone responsible for telling you when you are full. When you try to avoid these hormones, your body can cause severe trauma. When the hormones tell you they are hungry, it’s better to follow that cue for health reasons.

Can it help you lose weight?

While the snake diet relies on ketosis to lose weight. It’s not burning calories like normal. Its burning your fat stores, then yes, it can help with weight loss. Some thoughts to keep at the back of your mind is that the snake diet can be dangerous. If not used in the right manner. Staying on this diet for extended periods of time may lead to bad side effects, some points we considered is. (10)

Although intermittent fasting is a great fasting for long periods. Of time like 48 hours or more are not recommended, your body needs lots of minerals and vitamins. Which the Snake juice does not provide. Being very active and not eating for 96 hours can be very dangerous. (11)

Can you lose weight, YES? But do not stay on this diet for long. The results can be rapid weight loss, which for the one doing the diet, it seems fantastic. But think of it this way why are you losing the weight so fast. Your body is consuming all its fat reservoirs to find nutrition.

For reference, the safe weight loss range is about (0.5–0.9 kg) per week, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). (12) (13)

Does The Snake Diet Promote Healthy Weight Loss

The short answer is NO. It’s based on a starvation model, which means you will lose rapid weight by fasting for long periods. There is an abundance of vitamins and minerals that the body needs but cannot be produced by itself. So the food that you intake will become nutrients and proteins and helps the body function. .Staying on the snake diet for long periods of time may increase your risk of other diseases. (14)

Benefits Of The Snake Diet.

According to the creator of the Snake Diet. The benefits of the diet include. Helping to cure type 2 Diabetes. Inflammation, And other diseases. But we couldn’t find any conclusive proof that there are many benefits to the snake diet. And any other related evidence or proof to back up Mr. Coles Claims. (15) (16)

It has shown that weight loss helps with keeping type 2 diabetes in check. But that is through healthy weight loss and exercise. So for Cole to state that the snake diet cures type 2 diabetes is a little biased for us. And looks like a promotional type statement.

Side effects of the snake diet

There are a massive amount of negative side effects on this diet. But the biggest one for us is that it promotes an unhealthy lifestyle. And the relationship with food. Some recent studies were done with people. For long periods of fasting. Have not yet proofed that long periods without food can be healthy, some side effects of the snake diet are:

  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Low blood sugar
  • Muscle aches
  • Weakness
  • Fatigue
  • Low sex drive
  • Low brain activity

Side effects will occur in people that are new to this kind of diet. Although it’s called the keto flu in the case of the Keto diet. Which is a much better and healthier diet than the snake diet. If you have been on a low carb diet recently, the effects of this diet won’t be as prominent. And no effect felt during some testing.

Do you want to try the snake diet?

According to shape magazine and their dieticians. The was outrage about this diet. They wanted to let you know that you should stay as far away from the snake diet. One dietician went as far as saying they find Mr. Cole’s diet alarming. Most of his videos start by saying HEY FATTY, which is a disgrace and sounds like he is a grade school bully.

Reading through the comments section of shape article. I notice that there is a lot of positive feedback. About general fasting and how it can cure lots of illnesses. And then a lot of negative feedback on the article writers. I want to make it inadvertently clear that we do not consider the SNAKE DIET to be a healthy way of fasting. Although we do not take away the benefits of fasting as a whole. We do not like the approach of the snake diet and how Mr cole goes about his way of making videos.

We know there are positives to fasting but NOT the snake diet…

Although there are a lot of people that love these kinds of diets and will promote this. We acknowledge that the cause of rapid weight loss is not a healthy way of losing weight. The reason is, so fast of a weight loss product is not good for your body. You are reaping your body of nutrients and minerals. Your body then goes into overdrive. Find other sources of nutrients and starts using your fat stores.

We will never recommend this type of diet. And it’s a marvelous idea to speak to your medical practitioner before going on any kind of diet. The best healthopolitan is to eat healthy and regular exercise.
